Mr. Martin Kreutner, Chair of the IACA International Transition Team had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Carman Lapointe, UN Under-Secretary-General for the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), to IACA’s premises on 15 July 2011.
The OIOS was established in 1994 as an operationally independent office that assists the Secretary-General in fulfilling his internal oversight responsibilities in respect of the resources and staff of the UN.
At the congenial meeting, issues of anti-corruption education and awareness-raising were, among others, the focal points of discussion, and the Under-Secretary-General emphasized the importance of IACA´s training activities as a mechanism for preventing and curbing corruption. “International cooperation is of crucial importance”, she stressed, “and the OIOS highly welcomes the Academy’s significant role and input”. On a similar note, Ms. Lapointe expressed her office´s inclination towards establishing closer links of cooperation with IACA, so as to promptly and efficiently advance the fight against corruption on a global scale.
