Description
A misstep in government compliance can be costly, not just in terms of finances, but business’ reputation as well. One could be liable for fines and penalties on both the state and federal levels. During our jobs, we frequently interact with government agencies, officials, and public international agencies. In every instance, employees must apply the highest ethical standards and comply with applicable laws and regulations, including certain special requirements associated with government transactions. Government Officials are important partners and stakeholders and a proactive, honest, transparent, responsible, and sustainable dialogue and engagement between Government Officials and the private sector is a fundamental aspect of good corporate governance.
Learning objectives
In light of the FCPA and other legislations (e.g., UK Bribery Act) we distinguish between government officials and non-government for business courtesies and hospitality procedures. While rules are more stringent for government entertainment, it is prudent that non-government entertainment be reasonable, proportionate, and consistent with law of the land and the ethics code of a company. In this regard, the participants will be able to understand critical aspects including:
- How different types of interactions create improper payments risks
- How Government officials can act with utmost accountability
- How to pursue Government business
- How to localise Gifts and Hospitality policies as per Compliance standards
- Maintaining system of controls aimed at preventing and detecting bribery
- What is compliant in Business Courtesies?
