The present edition of the Power of the Pen training for nationals of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, and Senegal will bring together media representatives that hold the common objective of investigating, addressing, and reporting on corruption.
It aims at giving the participants an opportunity to advance their knowledge through interactive lectures on selected topics and sharing experiences with lecturers and peers. The participants will be able to expand their expertise, build a common knowledge base, and strengthen regional capacities to effectively fight corruption through media and the power of the pen.
The Power of the Pen training will equip participants with:
- Conceptual understanding of what investigative journalism is and how it can be used as a tool for curbing corruption
- Awareness of the risks of covering corruption and knowledge on how to ensure both freedom of expression and the safety of journalists
- A network of media professionals through which to strengthen regional capacities to curb corruption through the ‘power of the pen’
- Exposure to practical examples and the opportunity to gain insight from experts through case studies of investigative journalism

Target Group
The Power of the Pen Training is open to applications from journalists and media professionals from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, and Senegal who aim to develop relevant skills in investigating, addressing, and reporting on corruption.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be nationals of Burundi, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, or Senegal, as well as demonstrate relevant experience in the sector.
Participants will be selected based on their education and professional experience, as well as their interest and experience in the anti-corruption topic, as clearly demonstrated in a Motivation Letter.

Duration
The 5-day Power of the Pen Training will consist of a three-day training in November 2022 and a two-day follow-up session in May 2023.
DELIVERY FORMAT
The Power of the Pen Training will be delivered in an online format and include interactive sessions.
