About

IACA Regional Summer Academy Africa is an interdisciplinary programme that promotes a deeper understanding of corruption, prepares participants to better address challenges and promote best practices, and offers frameworks for durable anti-corruption and compliance strategies.

Internationally renowned professors and practitioners combine theory with real-world case studies, providing fresh insights on regional issues and challenges.

The programme consists of lectures, a roundtable discussion, a social event, and a team-building exercise.

IACA Regional Summer Academy Africa is a seven-day interdisciplinary programme for professionals seeking to enhance their anti-corruption work. This is the ninth in the series of programmes modelled after IACA’s successful annual Summer Academy and is designed to address region-specific topics relevant to anti-corruption and compliance professionals. 

The Regional Summer Academy Africa equips participants with:

  • a deeper understanding of the intricacies of corruption globally and in the region
  • enhanced skill sets to assess best practices and cross-sectoral challenges
  • tools to help bridge the gap between anti-corruption theory and practice
  • frameworks for devising sustainable anti-corruption strategies
  • exposure to the latest research and case studies from leading global experts
  • the opportunity to exchange experiences and develop a strong network.

Participants benefit from high-level peer discussion and subsequently join the Academy’s alumni network of anti-corruption and compliance professionals from more than 160 countries.

IACA reserves the right to change or adapt the date, time, and/or format of the event at its discretion given the rapidly changing nature of the current global pandemic.

Please note that physical spaces at the training are limited and attendance is subject to approval. We kindly request the participants to await email confirmation of participation before engaging in any travel arrangements.

Target Group

Professionals from the selected countries with relevant work experience in the public or private sector, international or non-governmental organizations, as well as media representatives, graduate students, and researchers in areas related to anti-corruption and/or compliance. Applicants with a level of junior engagement demonstrating their potential may also apply.

Delivery Format

The IACA Regional Summer Academy Africa 2023 is foreseen to be delivered in person and include live sessions, team-building activities, social events, and a round-table discussion.

Admission requirements

  • Professionals with an extensive level of work experience related to the training. Subject to available seats, professionals with a level of junior engagement demonstrating their potential are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English,
  • Hold a passport of one of the eligible countries.

Participants will be selected based on their education and professional experience. IACA is committed to promoting diversity and strives to attract participants from various backgrounds.

  • Motivation Letter only for scholarship applicants (a detailed Motivation Letter as per the requirements described in the Information),

Application Process

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Applications will be processed on a rolling basis, and successful applicants may be offered a place in the programme before the application deadline expires. It is therefore strongly suggested to all interested applicants to apply for participation in the programme at their earliest convenience.

 

Fees and Logistics

Training fee: TBC

This activity is funded under the Siemens Integrity Initiative, Third Funding Round. Therefore, the competitive programme fee includes all costs for the training, opening gala dinner, accommodation in a venue hotel in Nairobi (Kenya) for eight nights, meals, coffee breaks, a social event, and a farewell dinner as described in the programme.   

Insurance: Participants are responsible for their insurance and covering any associated costs.

Visa: Participants are responsible for their visa arrangements and any associated costs.

SCHOLARSHIPS

IACA is offering partial scholarships to the nationals of the LDCs as per the UN classification as well as to the nationals of the Upper-Middle Income and Lower-Middle Income Economies as per the Wolrd Bank classicfication that are also IACA state parties.

The scholarships are highly competitive and merit-based. Individuals who received IACA scholarships before are not eligible to apply for partial scholarships. Please check conditions carefully and in case of applying for a scholarship please indicate this clearly in your application.

Financial Support

Under the Siemens Integrity Initiative Funding, a limited number of grants covering travel costs are available for applicants from the eligible countries as listed above.
