As part of a study visit to Austria, IACA received 24 officials from police, border guard and customs agencies from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The visit took place on 5 September and was organized by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in the framework of the “Eastern Partnership - Integrated Border Management Flagship Initiative Training Project”.
Initiated in 2011, the overall aim of this project is to facilitate the cross-border movement of persons and goods in the six European Partnership countries, while at the same time maintaining secure borders through the enhancement of inter-agency cooperation, bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation among the target countries, EU Member States and other international stakeholders.
The visit provided an opportunity for exchanging information, and IACA’s representatives shared their knowledge on anti-corruption measures which could contribute to border security as well as capacity building in the field of illegal immigration.
Founded in 1993, the ICMPD is an international organization whose purpose is to promote innovative, comprehensive and sustainable migration policies and to function as a service exchange mechanism for governments and organizations. The ICMPD is one of IACA’s founding members.
