The distinguished President of the Republic of Austria, H.E. Dr. Heinz Fischer and an eminent Presidential Delegation, which was accompanied by the Austrian Ambassador to the International Organizations in Vienna, H.E. Dr. Helmut Böck, paid an official visit to the Academy in Laxenburg on 15 September.
Amongst the high-level delegations, it was emphasized that a strong need for a proactive and incessant fight against corruption is of the uttermost importance. President Fischer and Martin Kreutner, Chair of IACA’s Transition Team, agreed that as corruption knows no borders and affects all sectors of society, every country without exception has to deal with this global menace. In this regard, the President expressed his view on IACA as an important institution and technical assistance provider which helps combat and prevent corruption at its roots. His Excellency further clarified that for fighting corruption, “it is not enough to strengthen laws alone, it is also a matter of attitude and personal correctness. Thus a strategy including both approaches is needed”.
The Austrian Head of State expressed his sincere gratitude for IACA’s contribution to tackling this global phenomenon through education and awareness-raising. Dr. Fischer explicitly reiterated the essence of worldwide cooperation and pledged to fully support and promote IACA.
During the discussion, Mr. Kreutner also shared a caveat on IACA’s future undertakings, noting that “it is important to note that IACA cannot deliver magic solutions and silver bullets, however, the Academy will bring forward all efforts and means to support the worldwide fight against corruption. It will strive to further empower the professionals”. In his concluding remarks, he expressed his sincere gratitude and utmost appreciation for Austria’s support to IACA and warmly thanked the Austrian President for his interest in and support towards IACA. The visit was covered with high interest by media representatives.
