The Power of the Pen is an interactive, three-day roundtable co-sponsored by the US State Department. The roundtable provides an opportunity to examine and overcome obstacles to ethical reporting, challenges to fair and thorough investigative journalism in the field of corruption and develop best practices based upon case studies with well-known journalists from the region and all other corners from the world.
Each edition caters to a small group of media representatives from a different region of the world. The first Power of the Pen targeted the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, while the second catered to Sub-Saharan Africa.

The "power of the pen" is a phrase long representing the concept that the pen is mightier than the sword.
For three days, participants will examine the roles and responsibilities for ethical journalism, exchange experiences, and engage in interactive discussions with well-known journalists and practitioners from various parts of the world. Topics will range from the impact of corruption on fair and independent reporting, ethics, investigative reporting, legal frameworks, and best practice.
Each edition of the roundtable caters to a small group of media representatives from a different region of the world.
Applicants must have practiced principled journalism in the region of focus and currently be working in the field of print, broadcast or photographic media.

Roundtable FeesParticipation is sponsored by IACA and includes tuition, a round-trip economy travel ticket to the roundtable venue, accommodation, airport transfer and meals.
