IACA Discusses Further Cooperation with the GCC

IACA and the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) are continuing to explore possible ways of preventing and combating corruption through joint programmes and trainings, capacity-building and awareness-raising activities, regional meetings, and other events.

Stronger cooperation was the main theme of a meeting in Vienna on Wednesday between Martin Kreutner, IACA’s Dean and Executive Secretary, and Mohammed Saleh Al-Gheilani, Permanent Observer for the GCC in Vienna.

Besides anti-corruption programmes and trainings for experts in the GCC’s Secretariat and member countries, IACA and the GCC could also potentially work together to identify links between corruption and other topics relevant to sustainable development, and to promote these in international fora.

On Wednesday Mr. Kreutner also met Vienna-based representatives of the League of Arab States Secretariat and its member countries to discuss potential mutual cooperation.

Several states from the Arab League are Parties to the IACA Agreement (Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan). In addition, Mr. Kreutner, as Executive Secretary to IACA’s Assembly of Parties (AoP), invited the Arab League to attend the sixth session of the AoP in Egypt later in 2017 and to consider holding a joint event on regional anti-corruption issues within the framework of the session.
