17th Conference of International Investigators hosted by IACA

IACA is proud to host the 17th Conference of International Investigators (CII) in October this year. Internal investigators and representatives from international organizations such as the United Nations, the European Union, the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the European Investment Bank, and the African Development Bank will convene at the Academy’s campus in Laxenburg to exchange ideas on pertinent integrity and corruption issues in the context of their work.

Some of the topics to be confronted at the conference are the challenges and limitations of fighting corruption and fraud, as well as relevant best practices and new developments. The creation and maintenance of ethical organizational cultures and legal frameworks of the international investigative process will also be discussed.

The programme of the 17th CII is structured to stimulate interactive and thought-provoking debate on relevant topics, enabling participants to analyze, benchmark, and even reassess their current approaches. As in previous years, the agenda will feature renowned moderators, speakers, and panellists from within the investigative network and beyond; the opening Franz-Hermann-Brüner Memorial Lecture will be held by Prof. Manfred Nowak, former UN Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment and Scientific Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights in Vienna. The conference is preceded by a two-day training event.

The CII was established in 1999 with the objective of assisting investigators and their offices in the professional conduct of their work, and to support their role in developing, maintaining, and improving the integrity of their organizations.

The CII is represented by the investigative office or function of participating international organizations, as established by a treaty or other instrument governed by international law and possessing their own international legal personality.
