IACA’s fourth Assembly of Parties opens on International Anti-Corruption Day

On the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day, IACA today welcomed more than 250 delegates from around the world to Vienna for the fourth session of its Assembly of Parties.

The delegates, who represent more than 70 national delegations, will spend the next three days discussing IACA’s overall objectives and strategy. Important items on the agenda include elections to IACA’s Board of Governors and fundraising activities for the Academy.

The Assembly began with an address from H.E. Mr. Heinz Fischer, the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, and a video message from H.E. Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

In his address, Mr. Martin Kreutner, Dean and Executive Secretary of IACA, emphasizedthat a strong, relentless fight against corruption is essential for realizing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“Investing in anti-corruption education and empowerment is the smart way towards sustainable development, safeguarding human rights, and strengthening the rule of law on the road to 2030 and beyond,” he said.

The Assembly ends on 11 December. It also includes two side events, one of which is on the nexus between corruption and security, and the other on training the next generation of anti-corruption enforcers.
