Eighth Assembly of Parties Ends Successfully

The eight session of IACA’s Assembly of Parties ended successfully in Nur-Sultan, Republic of Kazakhstan, on Friday, 4 October, with the unanimous adoption of four resolutions and the Nur Sultan Declaration.&nbsp

The Assembly was generously hosted by Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan.  

Throughout the three-day gathering, delegates expressed their strong support for IACA, underlined the importance of its global work, and gave strongly positive feedback on the quality and relevance of its academic degree programmes, open trainings, and tailor-made trainings.

Parties broadly commended IACA for its achievements and global recognition in spite of the Academy’s limited resources, underscored the necessity of a suitably well-funded general budget, and indicated desires for increased cooperation, including with regard to the organization’s financial resources and stability.

The Republic of Korea extended an invitation to IACA’s constituency to host the ninth session of the Assembly in 2020, an offer that was accepted with appreciation by the organization’s Parties.

The Assembly unanimously elected Mr. Olzhas Bektenov (Republic of Kazakhstan) as the President of the eight session, succeeding H.E. Mr. Gocha Lordkipanidze, Georgia. Mr. Olzhas Bektenov thanked the outgoing presidency for its excellent work and pledged his full support for the work of the Assembly. 

The Vice Presidents of the eight session are H.E Mr. Datuk Liew Vui Keong (Malaysia) and Mr. Olusola Akinrinade (Nigeria). The Rapporteurs are Ms. Judit Brzobohatá (Slovakia)and Mr. Gerhard Thallinger (Austria). More than 230 delegates from all regions of the world participated in the Assembly, which began on Wednesday, 2 October. The delegates represented more than 50 national and institutional delegations and included government ministers.

The future strategic direction and the financial stability of IACA were the main focus of discussion during the Assembly. On Thursday, Ms. Christiane Pohn-Hufnagl, Officer-in-Charge of IACA, and Mr. Alexey Konov, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, strongly urged Parties to provide renewed strong support to the organization in order to put it on a more stable and sustainable financial footing, and to consider innovative solutions to the challenges currently facing the organization. Mr. Konov also elaborated on future strategic direction of IACA as laid out in the Board of Governors paper on that topic.
