IACA attends the Kuwait International Conference on “Integrity for Development”

Upon invitation by the Chair of the Kuwait Anticorruption Authority (NAZAHA), His Excellency Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Nemash, Mr. Martin Kreutner, Dean and Executive Secretary of IACA, attended the Kuwait International Conference on “Integrity for Development,” which took place on 15 and 16 January 2019 at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre, in Kuwait City.

Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait, the conference was organized by NAZAHA in collaboration with the United Nations, and aimed to promote a culture of integrity in societies and institutions, provide education and raise awareness as an integral part of common efforts and responsibilities assumed in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to guarantee the right of future generations to a better life.

Speaking under the session on “Incorporating Integrity into Economic Reforms and Developing the Business Environment”, Mr. Kreutner emphasized the role of IACA in facilitating the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Conventions against Corruption (UNCAC) regarding the role of private sector in preventing and combating corruption, as well as promoting transparency, integrity, and competitiveness.  He further referred to the benefits of public-private partnership and the importance of anti-corruption compliance regulations that private and corporate entities need to develop in order to prevent and combat corrupted practices.

During his stay in Kuwait, the Dean and Executive Secretary of IACA also met with the Chair of NAZAHA to identify ways to further intensify cooperation between the two entities. In particular, possibilities to organize joint activities, professional trainings and awareness raising events were discussed.

The State of Kuwait become a Party to the Agreement for Establishing IACA as an International Organization (IACA Agreement) on 4 May 2015.
