Between 7 and 10 March 2022 an IACA Delegation led by Mr. Thomas Stelzer, Dean and Executive Secretary, visited Cairo following the invitation of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) and the Egyptian Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA).
During this visit, IACA Dean met with H.E. Mr. Hassan Abdelshafy Ahmad Abdelghany, Chairman of ACA, General Khaled Abdel Rahman, First Under Secretary of ACA, General Hamed Abd ElFattah Hemamy, Director of EACA, and other high-ranking officials representing ACA and EACA. Mr. Stelzer and H.E. Mr. Abdelghany launched the collaboration between the two organizations by discussing concrete initiatives on anti-corruption trainings and academic programmes.
The Chairman of ACA underlined that EACA is a hub for training and education for countries in the MENA region and Africa and IACA can benefit of this network of EACA by delivering joint trainings and programmes to professionals in these regions.
Referring to IACA programmes, activities, and research, IACA Dean emphasized that by collaboration with ACA and EACA the Academy will enhance its ability to contribute to the implementation of the United Nation Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
Through the Implementation Review Mechanism, State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) identified more than 4,000 individual technical assistance needs, including the requirement for “capacity-building”, with a special focus on training and education. This is where IACA can provide the biggest contribution to the implementation of the Convention.
IACA and ACA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 7 October 2017 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, that sets a framework for closer cooperation between the two organizations in the areas of anti-corruption and compliance.
