On 21 July 2022, the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) attended the Anti-Corruption Forum on International Development Cooperation organized by the International Development Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Commerce of China.
In his intervention on the topic of “Development Aid for International Anti-Corruption Cooperation”, Mr. Jaroslaw Pietrusiewicz, Chief of Staff and Head of External Relations and Strategic Partnerships, underlined that “In many countries the consequences of corruption include the embezzlement of public funds or improper use of economic resources, as well as foreign funds being received as development assistance or aid. Adding that the Political Declaration of the last year’s Special Session of the UN General Assembly against Corruption highlighted the importance of anti-corruption education and training as a key driver of change to build a culture of integrity and provide the basis for a corruption-free society, he stressed that this is where IACA can provide the biggest contribution. He referred to the role of the Academy in promoting necessary capacities of the relevant stakeholders to efficiently fight corruption in international development cooperation.
Mr. Pietrusiewicz informed that various training activities have been organized by IACA for and/or with development banks and agencies. Her also stressed that issues related to the nexus between development aid and corruption are an integral part of IACA’s Master in Anti-Corruption Studies programme and that in the near future the Academy plans to include such topics into the curriculum of the Master in Anti-Corruption and Diplomacy programme.
Mr. Pietrusiewicz concluded by stressing that IACA is willing and prepared to put its expertise and knowledge at the service of the international community to promote closer cooperation in the prevention and fight against corruption related to international development aid, thus enhancing its contribution to the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda.
