On this International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD), we start the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the signing of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).
IACA has always maintained that corruption is a global threat to the international community and the international legal order, and one of the major structural impediments to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. This is why, since its inception, the Academy has played an important role in the implementation of UNCAC.
Through its various academic programmes, trainings, research, and awareness-raising activities, IACA has assisted states to develop and implement effective anti-corruption measures in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
IACA’s priority is to provide capacity-building support to all those involved in the fight against corruption, regardless of their financial and other constraints. To that end, we strive to make our programmes more accessible financially, geographically, and linguistically. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can support and offer scholarships to students from least-developed countries (LDCs) and developing countries.
IACA conducts research focusing on the role of anti-corruption measures in the achievement of SDGs, typologies of corruption offences, integrity and compliance in the business sector, humanitarian aid activities, and sports. We develop tools that can be useful for implementing anti-corruption compliance management systems and evaluating the integrity and compliance programmes.
Recently, IACA started a new Global Programme on Measuring Corruption. The Programme works with international organizations, governments, civil society, the private sector, and academia to collaboratively design a robust, relevant, and useful approach to measuring corruption.
IACA celebrates the 2022 Anti-Corruption Day on the heels of the 11th session of the Assembly of Parties, which took place on 28 November in person for the first time in almost three years. This session of the Assembly commended the contributions IACA has made to the field of anti-corruption and urged the Academy to take a greater stage by deepening its relationship with other relevant actors.
On this day, I would like to renew the Academy’s commitment to work tirelessly to fight corruption through education, technical assistance, and research. I also wish our Parties, our students, and all our partners and supporters, great success in their future anti-corruption endeavours.
