IACA puts its expertise and programmes at the disposal of South-Eastern European States

Mr. Thomas Stelzer, the Dean and Executive Secretary of IACA, participated in the regional conference "A Culture of integrity – Enhancing prevention of corruption", held between  23 and 24 May in Šibenik, Croatia. The event brought together ministers of justice from six Southeast European countries, senior officials from the judiciary and public administration fields, as well as heads of anti-corruption authorities and high representatives of international and regional civil society organizations and academia engaged on the issue of fighting corruption and strengthening integrity in the public sector.

Opening the event, the Croatian Minister of Justice and Public Administration, Mr. Ivan Malenica, said  that "by building a culture of integrity we raise awareness of the importance of combating corruption.

In his address, Dean Stelzer expressed support and appreciation for the efforts of all the participating countries to prevent and fight corruption. He added that “IACA stands ready to put its expertise and capacity building programmes at the disposal of South-Eastern European States.” He also emphasized that the Academy is looking forward to closely support national anti-corruption efforts promoting the rule of law, good governance, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

To explore possibilities for IACA’s tailor-made support to the countries of the region, Dean Stelzer held bilateral consultations with various participating states. In particular, he met the Minister of Justice and Public Administration of Croatia, Mr. Ivan Malenica, the Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Josip Grubesa, the Deputy Minister of Justice of Albania, Ms. Andea Pirdeni. and heads of the national anti-corruption agencies of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Momcilo Radulovic and Mr. Hasim Sabotic, respectively.
