The IACA Board of Governors has appointed Professor Slagjana Taseva as the new Dean of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) for a renewable period of four years. She will take up her duties on 1 July 2024.
Professor Slagjana Taseva is a national of the Republic of North Macedonia where she was the first President of the Anti-Corruption Commission. She is also a former Committee member of the Afghanistan International Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC and founder and first Chair of Transparency International Macedonia.
Specialising in money laundering, financial crime, corruption, and organised crime, she holds a Ph.D. in law from Sts. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. She published several books in the field of criminology and criminal law (Dark Figures of Criminality - 1996; Money Laundering – 2003 and new edition in 2007; and Macedonian Criminal Law - 2010 – Handbook for students). In 2004, she was appointed Director of the Police Academy in Skopje. In 2006, she became Vice President of the Association of the European Police Colleges. In 2008, she was appointed Dean of the Faculty for Detectives and Criminalists at the European University in Skopje.
From 2000 to 2005, Professor Taseva has participated in numerous evaluations as an expert of the MONEYVAL (The Council of Europe FATF type of Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism), as well as evaluator and rapporteur for GRECO in several countries. She was heading the GRECO delegation for the Republic of North Macedonia (2007-2012) and was elected member of the GRECO Bureau. In 2009, she was elected first Chair of the UNCAC Coalition. In 2010, she co-founded EURISK Consulting, the Legal Consulting Company.
Professor Taseva cooperated with various government’s agencies as well as international organisations. In particular, she served as Senior Anti-Corruption and Anti-Money Laundering expert for the EU, USAID, UNODC, UNDP, and GIZ programmes. Moreover, she was mid-term and ex-post evaluator for numerous EU and UNDP/UNODC projects and programmes in the field of the rule of law, anti-corruption, and fight against organized crime and illicit financial flows. She also served as team leader for numerous projects related to good governance, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, illicit financial flows, and financial investigations. In 2022, within an EU funded project, she conducted an assessment and provided a Roadmap for Anti-Money Laundering in Papua New Guinea. Before this appointment, she served as a key expert for the EU-funded project on Strengthening Transparent and Accountable Governance in Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
Professor Taseva received several rewards for her anti-corruption activities, including “Person of the Year 2003” from Forum Magazine and “Person of the Year 2004” from New Women Magazine.
