Conflict of Interest poses a significant risk of corruption in professional settings, as it may lead to individuals prioritizing personal interests over their official duties, thereby abusing power for private gain. Situations involving competing interests also threaten democratic processes, making the prevention of conflict of interest in the public sector crucial for safeguarding public integrity.

Recognizing the significance of this issue, the Agency for Prevention of Corruption of the Republic of Serbia partnered with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) to organize a training session for its officials on 5 and 6 February 2025 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The event provided 20 participants with an opportunity to improve their understanding of, including theoretical and practical aspects. It also equipped them with knowledge on the difference between private and public interests and highlighted the importance of reporting assets, gifts, and outside activities to promote transparency.

Led by Mr. Drago Kos, an esteemed IACA lecturer and recognized expert in integrity and anti-corruption, the session focused primarily on various management strategies. Participants engaged in discussions on rules, sanctions, disclosure mechanisms, and potential risk areas. They also explored the benefits of partnerships with employees, businesses, and non-profit organizations. A series of real-life scenarios were presented, sparking lively debates among the participants.

This training marks the final activity for the Agency for Prevention of Corruption  that will take place in Serbia. However, 13 officials of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption will have the opportunity to participate in study visits to Austrian and international anti-corruption bodies and attend further training sessions at the IACA premises in Laxenburg and Vienna, Austria between 17 and 21 February 2025.
