From 12 to 14 March 2025, the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), through its Anti-Corruption Collective Action Impact Centre, took part in efforts to support a Collective Action project in Buenos Aires, Argentina, aimed at promoting transparency in the fisheries sector.
The programme included a series of events, particularly the Compliance Breakfast: Global Trends and Challenges for 2025, which attracted numerous professionals and provided a platform to introduce IACA and discuss the potential of collective action in combating corruption. Another key event was the Sustainable Fisheries Week, featuring a workshop focused on identifying opportunities to enhance transparency, and an event with panel discussions and presentations emphasizing the importance of collaboration and the use of international standards in fostering good governance.
Petra Susac, Head of General Management, and Martin Zapata, Senior Academic Programmes Officer, represented IACA. They delivered presentations underscoring the importance of collective action in ensuring long-term transparency and sustainability in the fisheries sector.
These events marked a significant step in engaging government stakeholders, the private sector, and civil society in a collaborative effort to advance transparency and sustainability in fisheries. Ms. Mariana Regueira Corti, a participant of the Anti-Corruption Collective Action Certificate programme, played a leading role in organizing these activities with the support of her organization, the Argentine-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Argentina), and in collaboration with the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI).
In addition, the visit enabled with key anti-corruption actors in Argentina, such as the Anti-Corruption Office and the Government of Buenos Aires, where potential areas for collaboration were discussed and agreed upon. The programme also featured a networking meeting with the IACA Alumni Network in Argentina, offering an opportunity to strengthen connections.
